ABSTRACT

Previously, most of the research on charismatic leadership has mainly focused on the relationship between charismatic leadership and leadership effectiveness. However, there has not been sufficient investigation on the mediating variables and the moderating variables of this relationship. In this study, we tested the mediating effect of leader acceptance and the moderating effect of self esteem in charismatic leadership. Based on related theory and literature review, hypotheses were developed and tested. Questionnaires were distributed to 300 employees of 7 financial companies. Among returned questionnaires, 205 samples were used for this study. The results showed that charismatic leadership had significant positive effects on job commitment and performance. Also, the results showed that followers' leader acceptance mediated the relationship between charismatic leadership and leadership effectiveness. Finally, self esteem moderated the relationship between charismatic leadership and the followers' leader acceptance. Implications and directions for future research are discussed in the discussion section and the limitations of this study are discussed in conclusion.
