ABSTRACT

This research utilizes the data provided by the Gyeonggi Education Panel Study (GEPS) collected over a course of three years in order to analyze the longitudinal shift of acts of delinquency among elementary school students. Results are as follows: First, the most frequently occurring delinquency among elementary school students is cheating during exams. In order to discourage this activity, a method to reduce examination stress needs to be developed. Second, in all of the noted delinquent acts, depression, insecurity, and the parental situation had a major influence. It can be concluded that the student's psychological state and the family relationship vis-a-vis the child play major roles in delinquent acts. Third, civil education provided at school level had an influence in discouraging delinquent acts. Fourth, a positive direction for human rights results in a school with a lower number of delinquent acts. Therefore, building a school where the rights of the students are protected is a major necessity in which educational organizations need to invest. Based on these results, practical strategies are proposed and a few limitations in realistically carrying out the research are discussed.
