AB - Japan's historicaloblivion aboutthe War criminalthrough 1931~1945has been grand barrierto rebuild Korea-Japan relationsafterWorld War Ⅱ.Especially,the remission of‘emperor' Hirohito ofJapan from war crimes was caused by America's occupation policy over Japan which justifiedJapaneserightists'actionandremarks.
Becauseitaffected theKorea-Japan relationsafterKorea'sLiberation in 1945,thisIMFTE casewasimportantin thecontemporaryhistoryofkorea.
This article, investigates IMFTE process through telegram exchanges betweenMacArthurandWashingtonovertheTokyoTrial.
OnSeptember11th,1945,DouglasMacArthurasSupremeCommanderfor theAlliedPowersissuedan orderofarrestoftheformerPrimeMinisterof ImperialJapan Tojo Hidekiand 44 persons.Thereafter,on January 19,1946, public announcement was made to ‘Establish the International MilitaryTribunalFarEast’,andthetrialstartedfrom May3,1946.
Insteadofbeingstrictlypunished,theywererelievedasAmerican policy toward theJapan had changed.Finally,only 7ofthedefendantsofwar crimewereexecutedonDecember23,1948after2yearsoftrial.
Disregarding the 20million Asian people’s wishes,the military tribunal reserved punishmentofthe key war criminals ofJapan which caused Japan’sdistortionofitshistoryandkoreaJapanrelationship.
