ABSTRACT

This study investigates the status and needs of lifelong education programs for adults with intellectual disabilities in Gyeonggi Province. It surveyed 32 individuals, 273 parents, and conducted in-depth interviews with 8 practitioners. The analysis showed that adults primarily participate in vocational programs, while parents engage in leisure programs. Adults desire vocational and information programs, while parents seek independence and vocational training. The study found that mild disabilities correlated with a higher demand for vocational programs, while moderate disabilities led to a greater need for independence and leisure programs. Adults over 30 also showed a stronger preference for vocational programs. Parents highlighted the need for specialized education institutions, mandatory participation in general education programs, and the employment of specialized staff for adult intellectual disability education. The study emphasizes the need for diverse programs and public awareness to support participation and daily living skills development.
