ABSTRACT

This study investigates the emotional and functional value of AI-mediated features in digital art therapy platforms, with the aim of informing design practices that enhance psychological wellbeing. Twelve platform features were evaluated using the Kano Model and Timko’s Coefficients to assess their impact on user satisfaction and dissatisfaction. Grounded in Positive Computing theory, the analysis examined how these features support core psychological needs—autonomy, competence, relatedness and meaning. To complement the quantitative findings, semi-structured interviews were conducted with professionals in psychology, education and creative industries, offering qualitative insights into the practical relevance of these features. Results indicated that features facilitating meaning-making, therapeutic relatedness, and creative autonomy were most strongly associated with customer satisfaction. These findings underscore the importance of integrating psychological design principles into AI-mediated therapeutic platforms to improve both usability and emotional engagement.
