ABSTRACT

This study conducted Focus Group Interviews (FGIs) with a total of 19 people with disabilities residing in the northern Gyeonggi province to identify the current status and needs of welfare services in the area. The aim was to explore support measures for disability welfare that take into account the regional characteristics of northern Gyeonggi. The analysis revealed that people with disabilities in northern Gyeonggi face challenges including imbalanced welfare resources, insufficient infrastructure, and limited transportation access. Specifically, there were disparities in welfare resources between northern and southern Gyeonggi, as well as among the cities and counties within northern Gyeonggi. Additionally, infrastructure was lacking, including welfare facilities, support services for activities of daily living, and employment opportunities. Due to the lack of welfare resources and infrastructure, people with disabilities were often required to travel across regions to access services. However, the large geographical area and limited transportation options exacerbated their difficulty with mobility. Based on these findings, the study suggests expanding infrastructure, guaranteeing mobility rights, and providing outreach services tailored to the unique characteristics of the northern Gyeonggi region.
