ABSTRACT

This study aims to explore the key factors and decision-making processes involved in the conflicts that hemodialysis patients with kidney disabilities experience during the job retention and job change process, and to identify implications for job retention and smooth job transitions. To achieve this goal, the study focused on the phenomena that arise in the process of balancing hemodialysis treatment and work life, and selected eight employed hemodialysis patients under 65 years old from four dialysis centers in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province as research participants. The study employed qualitative case study methodology developed by Stake (1995), and case within-case and case between-case analyses were conducted based on the collected interview transcripts. Through case between-case analysis, 91 meaningful concepts were categorized, and 30 subcategories were derived. These subcategories were then abstracted into eight main categories. Based on the research findings, various policy and practical implications for the job retention and job transition of hemodialysis patients with kidney disabilities were derived. This study was conducted with hemodialysis patients from a specific region, thus the findings reflect the unique environmental and situational characteristics of that region. Future research should include samples from various regions for a more comprehensive analysis.
