ABSTRACT

This study aimed to analyze the effects of multicultural mothers’ psychological factors (depression and anxiety) on their children’s language development and ego-resilience, and to verify the structural relationship in which these child development traits influence their social adaptation and psychological stability. The study was conducted with 282 pairs of elementary school-aged children and their mothers from multicultural families residing in the metropolitan area of South Korea. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed for data analysis. The results indicated that the mothers’ psychological factors had a negative effect on children's language development and ego-resilience, which in turn positively affected children's social adaptation and psychological stability. Furthermore, both language development and ego-resilience showed significant mediating and double-mediating effects in the model. These findings highlight the need for integrated intervention programs that support not only the psychological well-being of multicultural mothers but also the linguistic and emotional development of their children.
