AB - This study summarized the core roles and competencies of designers in the Discover and Define stages. And the roles and competencies of the Generative AI discussed at the present time are summarized.
Through this, the roles and competencies that the Generative AI can play in the Discover and Define stages were defined. And it was found that it forms a complementary relationship with the designer. As a result of conducting Scoping Review to derive the roles and competencies of designers and Generative AI, it was confirmed that Generative AI plays the roles of information search, data structure, pattern derivation, thinking expansion, problem finance, and decision-making assistance. However, roles such as user empathy, empirical data analysis, problem direction setting, and value judgment have been confirmed to be difficult to replace. This study contributes by structurally defining the roles and competencies of designers and Generative AI in the early stages of the UX design process, and by presenting both the usability and limitations of Generative AI.
