AB - This study aims to identify substantial shifts in the interpretive paradigm of Myeongri science by comparing the theoretical and structural developments of two representative classics: Myeongri Jeongjong and Japyeong Jinjeon. Zhang Nan’s Myeongri Jeongjong integrated fragmented theories and established the foundation of the "New Method". Its core theory, Byeongyak (Theory of Sickness and Medicine), defines the imbalance of Saju as "sickness" and its resolution as "medicine," presenting an active view of fate where prosperity is determined by harmony. While it enhanced logical consistency through practical case studies, it remained a transitional paradigm that occasionally mixed criteria outside the Wolryeong and failed to fully exclude the remnants of Sinsal. In contrast, Shen Xiaozhan’s Japyeong Jinjeon completed modern Myeongri by establishing the Gyeokguk centered on the Wolryeong. Based on the principle that the Yongsin must be derived solely from the Wolryeong, it boldly excluded Sinsal and perfected a rational structure for judging fortune through the logic of Success and Failure, Rescue and Response, and the interactions of the Ten Gods. This unified the criteria for analysis and solidified the academic status of Myeongri. In conclusion, while Myeongri Jeongjong opened the door to practical analysis and the exclusion of Sinsal, Japyeong Jinjeon provided an objective framework for prediction through a unified logical system. Both classics serve as decisive milestones that transitioned Myeongri from mysticism to a rational interpretation centered on Gyeokguk.
