ABSTRACT

This study empirically examines factors influencing older adults’ difficulty in judging the authenticity of AI-generated videos. As synthetic videos increasingly resemble real individuals, distinguishing authentic from fabricated content has become more challenging, particularly when authority cues are present. A survey was conducted with 120 participants, including 60 adults aged 65 and older and 60 under the age of 65. The data were analyzed using independent t-tests and multiple regression analysis. The results show that digital literacy and cognitive traits did not significantly affect perceived difficulty in authenticity judgment. In contrast, authority-based trust orientation significantly increased difficulty. These findings suggest that older adults rely more on authority-driven trust strategies than on technical skills or cognitive abilities when evaluating AI-generated videos, highlighting important implications for senior-focused digital literacy education and AI service design.
