ABSTRACT

This study examines whether information chunking and visual signaling effects operate equivalently in micro-text environments, using Kakao Notification Talk onboarding messages. A 2 × 2 between-subjects design manipulating chunking (low/high) and visual priority (low/high) was conducted online in a first recruitment wave from April 25 to 28, 2026, followed by a supplementary wave on May 12, 2026, yielding a final analytic sample of 125 KakaoTalk users. Primary measures were recall accuracy and NASA-TLX cognitive load; secondary measures included confidence, calibration gap, stimulus dwell time, and quiz response time. No significant main effects or interactions emerged; condition D (high-chunking/high-priority) showed the numerically most negative pattern across the four key indicators, while Kakao usage frequency and prior edtech experience were unrelated to accuracy. These findings indicate that message length, exposure time, and one-shot processing function as boundary conditions for information hierarchy design, and the study proposes landing-page-based information separation, staged onboarding, and modular messaging as follow-up hypotheses.
