Recently, flash memory has been in a great demand from embedded system sectors for storage devices. However, program/erase (P/E) cycles per block are limited on flash memory. For the limited number of P/E cycles, many wear leveling techniques are studied. They prolonged the life time of flash memory using information tables. As one of the techniques, block erase table (BET) method using a bit array table was studied for embedded devices. However, it has a disadvantage in that performance of wear leveling is sharply low, when the consumption of memory is reduced. To solve this problem, we propose a novel wear leveling technique using Sampling-based Block Erase Table (SBET). SBET relates one bit of the bit array table to each block by using exclusive OR operation with round robin function. Accordingly, SBET enhances accuracy of cold block information and can prevent to decrease the performance of wear leveling. In our experiment, SBET prolongs life time of flash memory by up to 88%, compared with previous techniques which use a bit array table.

In this paper, we propose a hypervisor for embedded systems based on ARM microprocessor. The proposed hypervisor makes it possible to run several real-time kernels concurrently on a single embedded system by virtualizing its microprocessor. With assistance of MMU, it supports virtual memory which enables each guest operating system has its own address space. Exploiting the fact that most embedded systems use memory-mapped I/O device, it provides a mechanism to distribute an external interrupt to virtual machines properly. It also achieves load balancing through live migration which moves a running virtual machine to other embedded system. Unlike other para-virtualization techniques, minor modifications are needed to run it on the hypervisor. Extensive performance measurement studies are conducted to show that the proposed hypervisor has enough potentiality of its real-world application.

As technology related to digital imaging equipment is developed and generalized, digital imaging system is used for various purposes in fields of society. The object tracking technology from digital image data in real time is one of the core technologies required in various fields such as security system and robot system. Among the existing object tracking technologies, cam shift technology is a technique of tracking an object using color information of an object. Recently, digital image data using infrared camera functions are widely used due to various demands of digital image equipment. However, the existing cam shift method can not track objects in image data without color information. Our proposed tracking algorithm tracks the object by analyzing the color if valid color information exists in the digital image data, otherwise it generates the lightness feature information and tracks the object through it. The brightness feature information is generated from the ratio information of the width and the height of the area divided by the brightness. Experimental results shows that our tracking algorithm can track objects in real time not only in general image data including color information but also in image data captured by an infrared camera.
