ABSTRACT

This study aimed to propose effective operational strategies for free majoring programs at colleges introduced alongside innovations in university education. Data were collected through a survey of 192 students enrolled at A College in Seoul. The analysis revealed that while students' awareness of free majoring programs was low, their recognition of the necessity of such programs was above average. The benefits of free majoring programs included opportunities for diverse major experiences, aptitude development, and increased confidence in major selection. Conversely, the drawbacks identified were intense competition for preferred majors, difficulties enrolling in popular courses, and shallow learning depth. Additionally, students indicated that programs for exploring aptitudes and competencies, as well as opportunities for major exploration, were their most pressing needs. Based on these findings, the study proposed establishing effective strategies for the successful operation of free majoring programs.
