ABSTRACT

A typical model for education essentials of East Asia area including Korea is well described on the scriptures of Buddhism and Confucianism. This paper is to search for education essentials focusing on the 「Doctrine of the Mean」(Zhongyong; 中庸) that comes from the scripture of Confucianism and 「Discourse of Awakening of Faith in Mahayana」(大乘起信論) in Buddhism. In this paper, we have suggested that belief of Mahayana Buddhism, that is, all human beings, are Buddha and Zhongyong(中庸), that is, human nature come from heaven’s order(天命之性), can play a critical role for establishing the identity of special education as the cultivation of human nature. Responsibility and mission for current special educators of East Asia is to find out an appropriate way for taking root of the essential nature to practice of East Asian special education.
