[Purpose] In this study, we show the practice and results of the sign language headword selection in the compilation of the <Korean Sign Language-Korean Dictionary>. [Method] Although this dictionary is a corpus-based dictionary, the size of the corpus is not sufficient, so for the headword selection conducted from 2018 to 2023, existing widely used sign language dictionaries and textbooks were also used to select headwords. The two types of data went through a preprocessing process to become appropriate data for the headword selection. While these materials were used as basic data, the authors also looked at the headwords for each type and added headwords if necessary. This process was carried out according to the principles of headword selection. [Results] The headwords which were selected in three ways were added together and duplicate heandwords were deleted, variants were grouped, and homonyms or polysemes were distinguished. In addition, the list of headwords was refined by adding homonyms, synonyms, and antonyms related to the selected headwords. Finally, the final list was finalized after review by the Korean Language Institute. There are a total of 2,484 headwords, and they are organized into 16 semantic categories. The headword list include 2,052 headwords selected from the Korean Sign Language corpus, and 432 headwords were selected from sign language dictionaries or textbooks and added manually by the dictionary compilers. Also a total of 344 variants were identified for the 2,484 headwords. [Conclusion] In order to compile a high-quality dictionary, it was suggested to expand the corpus, find alternative ways to secure headwords in addition to the corpus, distinguish semantic categories by fully considering the properties of polysemy, and enhance the function of the dictionary compilation system. This study is expected to contribute to the development of sign language lexicography by specifically presenting the principles and processes related to lemma selection, which have not been discussed in depth so far.

[Purpose] The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness with which paired-stimulus(PS) and multiple-stimulus-without-replacement(MSWO) preference assessment performance accuracy, maintenance, and generalization of parents of children with developmental disabilities were improved using the stimulus preference assessment(SPA) education app. [Method] PS and MSWO education were delivered to the parents of three children with developmental disabilities using the SPA education app. The SPA education app facilitates a process of observing and evaluating PS and MSWO performance. The study’s design entailed a multiple baseline across participants, and performance accuracy was determined at baseline and during the app-based SPA education, maintenance, and generalization phase. [Results] The parents of three children with developmental disabilities performed PS and MSWO with greater accuracy following the app-based SPA education. Moreover, it was confirmed that the parents’ performance accuracy was maintained and generalized even after a certain period of time. [Conclusion] App-based SPA education is an effective strategy for improving the accuracy of with which parents of children with developmental disabilities can perform PS and MSWO and is effective in maintaining and generalizing performance accuracy.

[Purpose] In this study, we examined the visual processing of Hangeul by children with reading difficulties from the orthographical perspective. We investigated the processing characteristics of children with reading difficulties in relation to Korean consonants, and vowels, and suggested implications for intervention strategy. [Method] This study population comprised a total of 26 children who were sorted according to chronological age and gender into two groups: one of 13 typically developing(TD) children and one of 13 children with reading difficulties in lower elementary school (first to second grades). To examine the children’s visual processing abilities in relation to Korean consonants and vowels, we implemented the transition form (straight line, diagonal line) of consonants task, the stroke complexity task, and the rotation of consonants and vowels task. [Results] The findings are as follows. First, in the consonants’ line variation task, the TD group showed a significantly high positive response rate in both the mosaic type and the figure types. Second, in the consonants’ stroke complexity task, the TD group showed a significantly higher response rate, and both groups tended to experience greater difficulty as the element of stroke order was added. Third, in the rotation status of the consonants and vowels task, the TD group showed a significantly high positive response rate, and both groups appeared to struggle with the mirror image. [Conclusion] This study’s findings suggest that the intervention in question will be an efficient means of addressing reading difficulties where the visual processing of Korean figures in concerned. In addition, therapists should be careful not to provide mirror images of the letter when providing interventions to the subject.
