ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to propose the approaching direction of sign language education by studying current status of sign language education on the deaf cultural point of view. Six deaf people were joined the focus group interview for this study; who are living in Deagu, KoungBuk, Seoul and Geyounggi area. The results were as follow; first of all, it need to design the future of deaf children about their whole life by providing various information because supplied information is too limited currently to parents of deaf children. Second, the most of parents are selecting oral language for main communicating method and to teach their children base on that. Therefore, it is demanded to change parent's mind for their deaf children. Third, it need to collect evidences about the efficacy of bicultural-bilingual approach and promote such a approach. Finally, it has to be build-up sign language learning condition for adopting sign language earlier. Based on the result of this study, it was discussed the approaching direction of sign language education for deaf children.
