ABSTRACT

[Purpose] This study aimed to explore the experiences of special education teachers in implementing school-wide distant education during the COVID-19 pandemic. [Method] The researchers developed a semi-structured questionnaire and facilitated focus interview sessions with eight teachers working at a private special school in Daejeon, South Korea. Interview transcripts were analyzed verbatim for categorization using the constant comparison method. [Results] Despite several challenges were identified, including a lack of time, communication with students and parents, and excessive paperwork, the participants addressed that distance education led to a better quality of teaching, efficient communication with parents, and more professional development opportunities. [Conclusion] The findings provide insightful knowledge on improving distance education's quality as part of special school curriculum in post-COVID era.
