ABSTRACT

Recently, social interest in the transparency of management and quality of education of child-care center and kindergarten has been increasing in Korea. In this regard, questions are raised about the appropriateness and effectiveness of the national accreditation, evaluation, and inspection of child-care center and kindergarten. In this context, this study focused on the evaluation system of early childhood education in Sweden which has an social education tradition in contrast to school readiness tradition of U.S. and Australia etc.. Respectively, the history and background of evaluation were reviewed and the then the evaluation process of early childhood education and care quality were introduced according to the three levels: institution, municipality and government. Swedish cases has significant implications for the development of early childhood education and care quality in Korea.
