ABSTRACT

An effort in human enhancement is happening all around our daily life, and it is no surprise to see the usage of cognitive enhancing drugs for that purpose. This paper will focus on linking virtue ethics with cognitive enhancement, in order to better use the technology of cognitive enhancement for human beings. According to the virtue ethics, human beings can achieve eudaimonia through fulfillment of moral and epistemic virtues. However, due to biological limitations, human beings have difficulties in developing ethical and cognitive virtues. And the lack of moral and epistemic virtues leads to a disturbance in our ability to make decisions leading to a Good Life. In other words, the usage of cognitive enhancing drugs can help us overcome our biological restrictions in developing moral and epistemic virtues. As a result, human beings will be able to recognize what type of enhancement is really needed to lead humanity to a good and happy life.
