ABSTRACT

This paper proposes the improved de-interlacing method that converts the interlaced images into the progressive images byone field. In the first, it calculates inter-pixel value applying Newton's interpolation of horizontal direction from upper.lower5 pixel values of missing pixel. Using inter-pixel values obtained from interpolation of horizontal direction and upper.lower 5pixel values, it makes an accurate estimate of the direction by applying the corelation between upper and lower pixel. Thecorelation between upper and lower pixels is calculated at the edge direction of missing pixel by using values obtained frominterpolation of horizontal direction and known pixels. The edge direction is determined as the direction that the corelationbetween upper and lower pixels is minimum. Thus, missing pixel is calculated by doing the average of upper.lower pixelobtained from predicted direction of edge. From simulation results, it is shown that the proposed method improves bothsubjective and objective image quality and improves quantitatively PSNR at th extent of 0.5 ~ 1.0dB as compared withprevious de-interlacing methods.
