ABSTRACT

This article aims at looking for the effective ways of teaching Korean reflexives to foreign learners. In some languages the reflexive constructions have the same form as passive. And due to the explicit appearance of reflexive marker there exist the strict syntactic rules. But the Korean reflexive constructions could be realized without the help of morphological marker in the lexical level. These are the verbs expressing physical action and the psychological verbs. And we can find the case alternation of 'i/ga' and 'eul/leul'. The optional use of 'i/ga' and 'eul/leul' brings about subtle meaning change and this change could be understood through the view of the whole text. With the case alternation the intention of speaker could be strengthened, or the state of some situation could be described. So for the effective acquisition of Korean reflexives the foreign learners should have knowledge about the right usage of reflexive verbs and their semantic relations with the whole text.
