ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to provide an opportunity to newly think about the identity of contemporary dance art, which opens up the possibility of numerous interpretations by analyzing the characteristics of conceptual dance. In addition, we consider the types of conceptual dance that focus on the process itself in connection with aesthetic and philosophical reasons, and analyze Xavier’s work, Self Unfinished to provide an opportunity to ponder the identity of contemporary dance art, in which various forms of dance coexist. Therefore, the analysis of Self Unfinished based on the type of conceptual dance in this study opens a chapter in the discussion of body, movement, and human beings, which is considered the most serious and sincere problem in dance art. It is also meaningful to reflect on the choreography, elements of the work, and the direction to explore the relationship with the audience that will continue to change in the future.
