ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to establish the concept of narrative in dance, and to explore the function of‘movement narratives’ and the possibility of dramatic speech by analyzing Crystal Pite’s representativeworks 「Betroffenheit」(2015) and 「The Statement」(2016). In order to understand the concept of narrative, this study refers to research in other art fields. Theanalysis of the work is centered on the video, the interview of the fight, and the critic’s review of thework. Dance has a fundamental relationship with human desire for narrative, and the movements of dancersare also one of the narrative systems. From this point of view, the study is to lay the foundation for a studyseeking a new narrative strategy in dance through the work of Crystal Pite.
