ABSTRACT

This study analyzes American popular dance from the 1930s to the 1980s from the sociological pointof view in order to establish American popular dance as the identity of practical dance. The researchmethod is to search related books, articles, journals, movies, and music videos. Popular dance changes inthe process of interaction and development between the public, media, and industry, and has a form ofarticulation according to changes in media. Popular dance has been accepted as an open concept to theactive public in the trend of gradually becoming specialized as a social act and becoming intimate withthe public. If the identity of practical dance is placed in popular dance, the meaning will be focused on theopen creation process, not the genre boundary, and more abundant discussions will be made.
