ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to explore the potential of improvisational dance education in cultivating sociality through transformative capabilities as a foundational research. In doing so, it aims to investigate how common goals and interactions between the two fields can contribute to the development of students’ education, and ultimately to examine whether the education system can foster individuals into talented students ready for the future. Drawing on the literature review based on the OECD’s (2019) ‘Reconciling Tensions & Dilemmas’ and Morgenroth’s (1987) improvisational dance education method, this study indicates that dance education can develop six competencies for sociality: creativity, responsibility, cooperation, empathy, trust, and adaptability. Therefore, it is significant in exploring the possibilities of dance education to foster who can respond to the constantly changing future society and live together with communities, and provides a theoretical basis for systematizing it.
