AB - This paper explores Dionysian art with a focus on the thoughts of Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche, and examines corporéité, namely, the internal foundation of dance art that is sensibly and perceptually learned through experience, and the spirit of dance that symbolizes its inner meaning. Specifically, the research explores theoretical reviews of the interpretations and discourses on “Dionysian dance,” and the grounds for the argument that the meaning connoted in dance must be inevitably tragic. This is done to then analyze how dance is related to existential happiness, the free spirit of human beings, and a proactive will in life, and investigate what the notions of self-regulation and self-overcoming—which are identified during the analyses—symbolize and indicate.Dionysian dance seeks to make individuals perceive themselves as being right at the boundary between the ideal and the real, as well as understand and overcome the pain and agony of life—all this configuring a way of life toward a new world.
