AB - An outline: The ‘上’ consists of four or five meaning items. These meaning items indicate each meaning in a single entry word ‘上1’. By doing this, it shows that each meaning is included in the same category.
However, it is doubtful that each meaning can be included in one meaning category because it is hard to understand the inter-meaning connection among them. With this question, it is researched that what kind of meaning connection is used in forming one extensive meaning category.
The results are following.
Various meaning of ‘上’ forms an extensive meaning category being motivated by cognitive mechanism of metaphor with the prototype meaning of physical space idea.
