ABSTRACT

Language is the carrier of cultural heritage. With the rapid development of network technology, network buzzwords have become the most intuitive and general carrier to reflect the changes in social times and people's lifestyles. The study of Internet buzzwords can not only detect the language characteristics of a certain period, but also reflect the spiritual world and social outlook of Internet users. In today's China, Internet buzzwords emerge in an endless stream, and the word "involution", which was selected as one of the top ten Internet buzzwords in 2020, shows the strong uncertainty avoidance, long-term orientation, and self-restraint tendencies in contemporary Chinese society. But in just 2 years, "laying flat", which was selected as one of the top ten online buzzwords in 2021, and the new hot word "tanking" in 2022 showed completely opposite tendencies. The purpose of this article is to investigate whether Chinese youth are really "lying flat" and "rotten" through questionnaires? To explore the evolution of Chinese youth mentality and value orientation.
