AB - In recent years, the rapid development of online social media has significantly influenced the emergence of numerous novel and unique neologisms on the internet. Investigating the characteristics and development trends of social media language thus possesses substantial theoretical and practical importance. This study conducts a case analysis using the event of North Korea launching garbage balloons towards South Korea. Initially, data collection and statistical analysis are performed, followed by a comparative analysis. Subsequently, the study elucidates the semantic and pragmatic features of homophonic expressions from both internal and external perspectives. Building on this foundation, the research seeks to determine whether there exists a preference for homophonic expressions in word formation when social media platforms comment on and report current events.
