AB - Mary My Dead Body, which appeared in an era when movies pointed out the public's lack of gender sensitivity regarding the sexual identity of others and gradually emphasized attitudes of solidarity and equality, is a Taiwanese film with a special character. In a new way of representing male-male couples and in a way that differentiates it from movies with existing codes of homosexuality, Mary My Dead Body contains awareness of how to understand and acknowledge human sexuality and the unique tendencies of others. In this study, we discussed in detail what ideals society can accept and what reality it excludes by looking specifically at the way in which Mary My Dead Body reveals the union of homosexuals and heterosexuals and the family problems of homosexuals.
It is important for movies to lead to solemn discussions and reflections on reality in the field of popular culture, but it will also be important to use what strategies to secure unique territory and communicate with a wider audience.
In this respect, Mary My Dead Body’s genre appeal and indirect narrative method are reducing the public's negative perception of queer films and attracting interest. However, this mechanism of representation created the problem of alienating the reality of homosexuals again and portraying women as monsters who attack male-male couples. Therefore, even if a film has the will to correct the public's notions and leave a lesson on a specific issue, it cannot be authentic as art if it does not contain an honest perspective and sharp thinking about the object being represented. You will be able to see it through.
