ABSTRACT

With technological advancements, artificial intelligence technologies such as ChatGPT and ERNIE Bot have rapidly gained popularity, changing the way people access information and knowledge. While people enjoy the convenience these technologies bring, they should also be wary of the potential ideological risks. This study, through an analysis of the 2020 Disney adaptation of Mulan, reveals that although the film is cloaked in Chinese cultural elements, it is fundamentally driven by the spirit of the "American Dream." Furthermore, a comparative analysis of responses from ChatGPT and ERNIE Bot regarding questions about the film demonstrates that ChatGPT perpetuates tmainstream American values as depicted in the film, whereas ERNIE Bot aligns with the ideological values of the Ballad of Mulan, which correspond to Chinese societal values. This analysis suggests that large language models like ChatGPT and Ernie Bot contribute to ideological reproduction, functioning as a new form of ideological state apparatus. In particular, ChatGPT appears to serve as a tool for the promotion of American cultural hegemony.
