AB - This paper takes the word "发表" (publication/announcement) as the research subject, examining its historical development in both Chinese and Korean. It further conducts a synchronic semantic comparison between the two languages to analyze the reasons behind the differences in meaning. The results indicate that "发表" is a case of a Chinese-Korean false cognate — words that look the same but have different meanings. In the modern linguistic systems, the semantic scope of the Chinese "发表" is narrower than that of its Korean counterpart. However, historically, the Chinese "发表" had a much broader semantic range and has had a profound influence on the formation of the modern Korean meaning of the word.
