ABSTRACT

This study examines the family letters of Liang Qichao, a prominent figure in China's modern reform movement and an influential educator who advocated for national salvation through education and the cultivation of new citizens. Liang Qichao is renowned for raising three academicians and nine talented children, and his parenting philosophy has garnered considerable scholarly attention. During periods of separation when his children were studying abroad, he maintained communication through letters. This paper analyzes selected letters organized thematically, addressing aspects such as academics, character development, mindset, conduct, health management, emotional guidance, and financial principles. Additionally, it explores the distinctive features of his communication style with his children as reflected in the correspondence, while investigating the rhetorical strategies employed in the letters through Aristotle's three modes of persuasion: ethos, pathos, and logos.
