ABSTRACT

Although hen(很)and zhen(真)are both degree adverbs, they differ considerably in syntax, semantics, and pragmatics, and their lack of one-to-one correspondence with Korean degree adverbs poses difficulties for Korean learners. This study combines linguistic and textbook analysis to examine the presentation of hen and zhen in three locally developed Korean Chinese textbooks—Jingtong Hanyu(精通汉语), Meiwei Hanyu(美味汉语), and Zhongguoyu(中国语)—focusing on their introduction, explanations, pragmatic conditions, comparison, and targeted exercises. The findings indicate that the textbooks are generally adequate in structural aspects, including introduction sequence, frequency, syntactic collocations, and example types, but share deficiencies in functional aspects, particularly metalinguistic explanation, systematic comparison, and targeted practice. They tend to emphasize structure over function, translation equivalence over pragmatics, and positive input over contrastive practice. This gap reflects the insufficient integration of linguistic research into textbook development. The study concludes with suggestions for improving the presentation of hen and zhen in Korean locally developed Chinese textbooks.
