ABSTRACT

The word Manju which is a name of an ethnic group is made by forms of man- and -ju. The first part man- stems from Manchu mangga which means strong and hard, whereas the second part -ju is the collarative result of the continuous dropping off of suffix pronunciation and palatalizing of prefix consonant of the word *goro in the original language of Atlay. The word manju means "a powerful arrow", the expression of which has a closed relationship with the hunting economy of Manchu & his predecessors.
