ABSTRACT

These days many people use various softwares to improve and support productivity of works. But software piracy is economically devastating to software companies and software market. In particular, it is a widespread phenomenon among Korean university students. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of intellectual property and software quality on personal software piracy behavior. The survey includes responses from 256 students in a business school. The research model was analyzed with PLS-Graph 3.0. A path analysis demonstrated that the importance of intellectual property had a negative impact on attitude toward software piracy, and perceived software quality had a positive impact on users' piracy attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control. The results have implications for developing and implementing appropriate policies to reduce software piracy.
