ABSTRACT

Recently, mobile devices like smartphone and netbook with wireless internet functions have been widely adopted by organizations. This research, therefore, attempts to investigate the impacts of the information systems and managerial control on mobile workers’task performance as well as the mediating effects of system satisfaction, perception of organizational justice and job satisfaction on it. Survey results show that (1) the groupware and mobile characteristics in the mobile devices have been perceived useful and satisfied by mobile workers, and such technological support after all contributes to improvement of their job performance. For now the groupware characteristics show stronger impacts on perceived usefulness and satisfaction than the mobile ones. (2) Both behavior and output control have positive impacts on mobile workers' job satisfaction and perception of organizational justice. But, behavior control characterized with frequent feedbacks to mobile workers on their task processes has much stronger impacts than output control characterized with rewards primarily focused on task outcomes. (3) Job satisfaction and organizational justice do not have impacts on the process-related productivity, such as elimination of redundant work or reduction of process cycle time. But, they shows some positive impacts on the customer-centric activities, such as increase in customer retention or better management of customer data.
