ABSTRACT

Yi, Hong-Shik. 2003. On the Meaning of the Prefinal Ending ‘-deo-’. Korean Semantics, 13. The purpose of this paper is to describe the meaning of the prefinal ending ‘-deo’. The prefinal ending ‘-deo’ has three meanings; it is used when the speaker wants to refer a event or a state that he came to know before the utterence time, or it is used when he wants to refer to a past event or a state, or it is used when he wants to refer to a event or a state that he tries to bring back his memory. These three meanings constitute a polysemy.
