AB - This research aims to rethink the systemicity of lexical relations in the contextualistic point of view. Word meanings and lexical relations essentially depend on context. Word meanings without context do not exist. Therefore, I question the approach which classifies semantic relations as ‘established semantic relations’ or ‘semantic relations by contextual modulation’. This approach has a limitation in that word meanings are considered to be fixed and stable, that is, context-independent. Because signification essentially requires context, lexical relations are not systematic. Thus, I suggest that we classify context as ‘conventionalized context’ or ‘creative context’. The lexical systemicity is partial, dynamic and context-based.
