Korean Semantics, 49. The purpose of this paper is to design teaching and learning methods for the strategies of speech act of prohibition in Korean. To accomplish this purpose, Korean native speakers' strategies were analysed minutely and the results of this analysis were compared with the strategies of Korean language learners, whose first language is chinese. The noticeable final results are: 1. When the learners prohibit something in Korean, more Moves were used than Korean. 2. Even when the learners intend to prohibit a single person's actions, they talk as though they are speaking to the whole group. 3. When the learners prohibit something in Korean, they sometimes try to use hearer honorific expressions strategically. But they usually use wrong ones. 4. When the learners prohibit something to strangers, they sometimes use greetings like ‘kamsahamnida' or ‘annyeonghaseyo'. Usages as such sound awkward, because Koreans never talk like this. For learners to affectively accomplish speech act of prohibition by using speech acts appropriately, it is needed to provide the learner with such information and accomplish proper teaching and learning.
