AB - This paper aims to investigate the aspects of annotations of function words in Lunyuzhengyi (論語正義, A comprehensive annotation of the Analects) by way of quoting Jingzhuanshici (經傳釋詞, An explanation of function words in Chinese classics), and to discuss its characteristics.
There are many systems of annotations of function words in Lunyuzhengyi (論語正義). For example, Lunyuzhengyi (論語正義) sometimes quotes Jingzhuanshici instead of explaining function words, and sometimes quotes Jingzhuanshici after explaining function words in order to present the evidence.
The characteristics of Lunyuzhengyi’s annotations of function words are as follows: it discusses many aspects of function words by presenting many examples, and adds its own opinion for further explanations. This shows that Lunyuzhengyi (論語正義) is located in a comprehensive annotation of the Analects.
