ABSTRACT

This paper examined teaching methods using historical fairy tales as a case study for elementary school history classes that elicit students' interest and imagination. In his dissertation, Choi Dongmin (2023) selected two historical fairy tales, 『Chaeggwa nonineum jib(A house where you can enjoy books)』(Lee Young-seo, 2009) and 『Seochal-eul jeonhaneum ai(A child delivering a letter)』(Han Yun-seop, 2011) and practiced 'reading the entire book' class. This paper attempted to complement Choi Dong-min's dissertation. First, this paper supplemented the contents analysis of the two historical fairy tales in line with the 2022 revised Curriculum achievement standards. Second, when teaching historical fairy tales, additional materials that can be read with students are needed. Accordingly, this paper reviewed and proposed what supplementary materials should be provided to students during class. The selection and contents analysis of 'reading the entire book' performed in this paper, as well as the selection of supplementary materials that can back up them, are reference cases for interesting history classes. In addition, it may be helpful in improving the 'reading the entire book' teaching method for historical fairy tales.
