AB - This paper was to identify residents' perception toward building a convention center in Jeollabuk-do. The social exchange theory was employed to understand the residents' attitude. Data were collected from 367 residents at Jeonnju and Iksan cities on October 2008. Contrary to the previous researches, results of this study revealed that the residents considered social cultural impacts of building a convention center more important than economic impact. Results also showed that different age groups had different perception of the socio-cultural and economic impact of building a convention center. The study implied that more advocacy activities for developing a convention center should be implemented by the provincial authorities to receive more support and help from the local residents.
