ABSTRACT

This study was to identify the dimensions that reviewers consider impor- tant when they review and evaluate journal papers. Data were collected at several tourism academic conferences from 137 people who had experiences on journal paper review. Results revealed that in their review process, the respondents considered several criteria to be important in the following orders: research originality, clarity of research objective, consistency between research objective and research findings, and interpretation and discussion. In contrast, in terms of paper evaluation, the respondents considered research design, research findings to be more important than research topic, and literature review. Regarding the final evaluation method of papers, the respondents preferred reviewing each criteria with different weight to reviewing the criteria with same weight. They also preferred deciding the final evaluation based not on the point system of journals but on their own judgement.
