ABSTRACT

This study explored different types of resident participation and their impacts on the community integration in the tourism development process. Data were collected from 337 residents of four different tourism oriented local communities(i.e., Togomi village, Grandparents experience village, Eco-mountain village, Bukchon Hanok village) on March, 2010. Results showed signifiant differences between the four different types residents participation in their level of residence participation and community integration. Specifically, community organization initiative type turned out to be the most effective type in resident participation and community integration. Results also indicated significant differences between socio-economic characteristics and level of participation and community integration. Based on the finding of this study, several practical implications were also discussed.
