ABSTRACT

This study aimed to explore diverse relational patterns between marital discords and perceived leisure experience. In particular, it focused on the moderating effects of gender and leisure identity which works between the variables as a personality . As dependent variables, marital discords driven psychological leisure experiences were conceptualized in terms of four dimensions: escape, deviation, resistance, and harmony-seeking. Based on a review of related literature five research hypotheses were developed and all five hypotheses were empirically tested using the survey data from 1,073 Korean sample(i.e., husbands 543 Vs. wives 530). Results empirically supported all the five hypotheses. More specifically, results showed that the effects of marital discords on perceived leisure experience were significantly moderated by sex and leisure identity. It was also found that wives seek for more hazardous leisure experience than husbands do, when marital discords increased. But the possibility was lessened as leisure identity strengthened. The conclusion included limitation and implications of this study, discussions, and future researches.
