ABSTRACT

The article reviewed historical development of Korean convention industry in terms of policy framework, infrastructure, alliance and human resource. Policy development regarding the convention industry has been systematically made to keep up with world trends for fostering the convention industry which is a high value added and knowledge based industry. As well. convention infrastructure and venues were dramatically developed to accommodate higher number of international conferences and exhibitions which have contributed to enhancing national image as a convention destination. As intermediaries of the convention industry, PCO and CVB have been created across the country. Furthermore, to produce operational excellence of convention cities, MICE alliances have been established around cities in Korea. MICE alliances will make a great contribution to inceasing efficiency and effectiveness of the convention industry. Above all, human resources have been fostered in establishing convention related educational institutions and in providing certified system for convention experts.
