AB - This study discusses the development process and prospect of the Chinese higher education system by analyzing the dissemination and removal of the Soviet higher education model. The dissemination of the Soviet higher education model was reflected in the departmental adjustments, the introduction of highly-centralized and unified management system, the special provisions and training objective oriented curriculum. China has explored its own higher education development system since 1958. Firstly, structural reform became the key point of Chinese higher educational reform. Secondly, the structure of higher education was reformed and the quality of the top-level universities was improved. Thirdly, the strategy of constructing first-class universities and disciplines was implemented. The experiences from the processes of dissemination and separation of Soviet higher education model will be a good guide to the development of the Chinese higher educational system.
