AB - 東晉朝廷對恢復中原的態度並不積極, 東晉時代經營北伐事業的人物有祖逖、庾亮、庾翼、殷浩、桓溫與劉裕等, 但武人多爲野心家, 像祖逖這樣忠心奮發的軍事統帥, 再也沒有. 所以可以說祖逖是東晉北伐的眞正的武人, 還可以說他占有東晉時代重要的一部分.
論者考量≪世說新語≫有鑑於≪晉書≫以事件作爲敍事中心, 而將敍事核心突顯於人物形象該點上, 在硏究方式上捨棄旣存的橫向個別分析(例, 比較、比喩等表現技巧)或典型類別的分析方式, 欲採以縱的面向摘選出散置於各篇目與記事中的人物及其相關內容, 給予綜合性的人物分析.
同時, 儘管≪世說新語≫與≪晉書≫並不具現代意念的小說型態, 不過其書中人物在不同狀況下呈現出多樣面貌, 或是某些性格或是個性反覆出現在書中被加以强調及詮釋, 因此透過對人物透徹的重點强調, 可以全盤地了解該人物的形象. 本論文是論者直到現在發表的連續論文之一, 這次以東晉北伐的代表人物祖逖爲探討核心, 透過此般對人物全面且多重的分析, 可將書中人物形象以及品評特徵等考察.
